“The day my 20 year corporate career ended was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received”
My name is LaDawn Townsend, and I’m known as the ’fixer’ that leaders call to accelerate an organization to grow the bottom line.
I never thought I would work in Corporate America for over twenty years.
That wasn’t my plan but that is what my life turned out to be, until the day my good paying, benefit rewarding executive job broke up with me. In November 2014 I received the call that no one wants to get “LaDawn, our team has been let go including you.”
That is when the adventure really began.
I come from a family of entrepreneurs and since the age of 8 the discipline of ‘working’ was deeply instilled in me. Summers and weekends were spent working together as a family so it was a shock to everyone (including me) when not only did I enter Corporate America right quickly after graduating from High School but I stayed in it for so long. I thought a career in Corporate America was the only path to stability and fulfilling my vision to impact the business marketplace. It is for some but not for everyone and here is why.
True financial security and freedom lies within your hands
We each have been given a unique skill or ability and the path to fulfill your purpose can look different for most
How can you identify your purpose? It’s the visions of a life desired that plays in your mind day and night. The life that you have plastered all over vision boards and every year you say this will be the year. I lived in the fantasy of waiting for my life to begin for over a decade before I took the leap or what I fondly call the push that I received that day in November 2014. Sounds like it was all a success from the beginning right? An entrepreneur since birth gets laid off and makes her business a winning success?
Not in the least bit.
After being laid off I gave my business a go and it didn’t go very far in actuality I made under $800 within the first few years after investing tens of thousands of dollars into tools, programs, conferences and more to learn what I thought you needed to know in order to have a sustainable business. What I did next took great courage, discipline and a decision to not allow ego to get in the way of my success.
I went back to Corporate America.
But this time it was different. I committed myself to building the leadership discipline I needed in order to do whatever needed to be done to get my business off the ground. It called for late nights, early mornings, very little time to hang out with family & friends and a move to a entirely different state just to find a job. I was willing to make these sacrifices because of the vow I made to myself that after wasting so many years on focusing on the wrong things I would never again be a woman that didn’t have the financial options she desired for her life. Ever!
Since leaving my corporate executive role (the second time) I’ve been able to:
Make consistent sales and replace my salary
Grow a thriving business all from the ground up
Work with clients around the globe
Host several live events
Close $37k n 90 days (with little advertising and HUGE fear of sales)
Finally live the life that I’ve always wanted
